The Internship Program

Our internship program is meticulously structured to span over 12 weeks, during which interns are immersed in real-world projects. The primary goal is to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application. The competitive selection process focuses on candidates who demonstrate enthusiasm, a strong academic record, and a willingness to learn. Now, let’s hear a bit from Jason.

Name of the project: Margin Analysis

Summer Project Description

“SIT was awarded a ferry system project that contained an HPU, Skid, 2 Hydraulic cylinders, gate, and a control panel. My role on this project was to investigate margin erosion and provide a step-by-step process for determining the root cause of margin erosion.”

A detailed description of what I contributed to the project

  • Generated Purchase Req
  • Investigated Margin Erosion using FRM-150, Job Costing Report, Purchase Req, and WebQuery Purchase Report
  • A step-by-step process for determining root cause and providing backup data
  • Created a bar graph as a visual aid to depict the results of margin analysis
  • Provided suggestions to eliminate margin erosion on future shipsets

Detailed description of what I learned from this project

“I have acquired the skills to effectively analyze margin erosion and identify the underlying root causes by examining specific forms, including FRM-150 and Job costing reports. Furthermore, I have learned to create a master req from scratch. Overall, I feel more confident in analyzing margin analysis.”

What I liked most about this project

“My favorite part about the project is navigating through the various forms like FRM-150 and job costing report and using data and calculations to determine the root cause of margin erosion.”

The most challenging thing about the project

“The most challenging thing about the project was in its early stages. Not being familiar with the forms and data made it not easy for me to analyze.”

How this project relates to my desired career path

“This project relates to my desired career path as a Project Manager because margin erosions are imperative to understand and prevent for all projects. One of the responsibilities of a PM is to understand the importance of controlling costs and ensuring that projects stay within budget.”

Jason’s journey at SIT highlights the significance of internships in career development. His achievements underscore the importance of providing young professionals with hands-on experience and mentorship. As Jason embarks on his professional journey, we are proud to have been a part of his growth and look forward to seeing his future accomplishments.
