SIT was awarded the opportunity to supply equipment needed for an innovative residential moving application. SIT was integral to the hydraulic design of the machine (inclusive of controls), and then further expanded the scope & value proposition to include the structure, eventually providing a turnkey package of the complete product. In concert with their sister company, GCC, they were able to meet the clients’ needs.

The OEM was in search for an integrator to take a proof-of-concept machine and turn it into a fully designed, validated & documented system in a short period of time. Not only was there a need to validate the initial design, but to optimize the proof of concept design into a mass production machine. This was to be done while also acting as the manufacturer for the prototype builds of this machine. SIT’s structural engineering expertise, along with the hydraulic expertise from GCC, provided the OEM a single source solution for a final package needed in a very short amount of time.

The intent of the machine is to be operated by the general public. SIT, GCC and the customer had to work together to ensure the machine was easy to use, not visually intimidating, and as fail-safe as possible. As a collective, the group worked through minor changes in the design through the first few builds, as field testing commenced, and more field trial feedback was received. SIT & GCC had to be very fluid to maintain a shipment schedule that both met the client needs, as well as made improvements to the design as they were learned.

SIT created a solid model of the as built proof-of-concept machine that the customer created. SIT then conducted FEA analysis to validate the strength & integrity of the existing build, and began a redesign of the machine with a focus on optimization of the combination of strength / durability, weight reduction, and ease of manufacturing / assembly. Post engineering phase, SIT then manufactured the first (6) complete builds of the design, ensuring customer satisfaction throughout the entire process.
