PROJECT DETAILS

The bigger they are, the harder they fall. That’s a problem when you have to drop a heavy structure at a specific rate onto a seabed installation without damaging either.

This was the case, when a client relied on SIT expertise to engineer an underwater solution that could absorb an extremely large impact traveling at a specific rate. SIT was able to work with the client and develop a series of specialized shock absorbers / decelerators to manage the load. The spring-return device is self-compensating utilizing the sea water as not only the compensation fluid but the operating fluid as well. During engagement the internal piston pushes through a series of engineered orifices to greatly reduce the speeds of heavy falling subsea units within in a short distance.

Ultimately, the product alignment was a success and the client has since outfitted 20 additional systems. With the products innovative design, the client is now able to operate with a dramatic increase in safely, efficiency and with lower risk to their equipment.
