PROJECT DETAILS

The CSX Tail Race Bridge in Berkley County, South Carolina was built in 1943. This vertical lift bridge has been standing over the Cooper River for over 70 years and was in need for renovation. SIT’s engineers were called to renovate the lift functionality of the bridge.

SIT initially conducted site visits to properly document the existing conditions of the operational controls. SIT then developed an updated electrical control system to increase the overall controllability of the raise and lower functions of the bridge and adequately display feedback from the various end devices. SIT installed new wiring, relays, and developed programming while also updating the existing control console.

While onsite, SIT’s engineers went above and beyond the initial scope of supply to troubleshoot existing issues with bridge operations and offer alternative solutions to get the bridge working properly.
